Recent History

I began this project early in the 2004 election season in which both presidential candidates were evasive, unwilling to discuss substantive issues and less than courteous. Big money smear campaigns were run against both candidates by "independent" organizations. After such election, we remained divided: Republicans were poised to abuse their "mandate" and Democrats were still perplexed that most Americans are not interested in the far left agenda (despite its endorsement by Hollywood, academia and high society). Howard Dean, newly elected Chairman of the Democratic Party, said, "I hate Republicans and everything they stand for." That sums up the cooperative spirit of our modern "leaders." We need only review the bickering, rhetoric and failed solutions of todays politicians while we face the serious hurdles of: an energy shortage, security issues, social security, immigration, budget deficits and even the established process of filling Supreme Court vacancies, to realize that this system needs a major overhaul. As James Garfield said, "Most human organizations that fall short of their goals do so not because of stupidity or faulty doctrines, but because of internal decay and rigidification. They grow stiff in the joints. They get in a rut. They go to seed." That is why Social Security reform proposed under the Clinton administration was deemed wise by Democrats and unwise by Republicans until George W. Bush made similar proposals. Then, the positions of both parties flipped, and nothing is getting done to resolve the problem.

In 2006, we had either a misguided or misunderstood war lead to a power shift in Congress. Unfortunately, I fear the issues were not (and still are not being) debated with our security in mind as much as political gain in mind. Today, so called "leaders" are so worried about who's to blame for the problem, and who gets credit for the solution, that they resolve nothing.

I have inserted quotes from various leaders of the past to illustrate how far our current system and leaders have strayed from effective government.
