Campaign Issues
- Public celebrity endorsements should be treated as campaign contributions subject to valuation limits. If a public figure has value protected in business context, use of such figure's endorsement must be considered a campaign contribution
- Corporate contribution limits and union contribution limits should be the same
- Individuals limited to $100,000 for candidates/committees/organizations (other than section 501(c)(3)) in any 6 year period. Such amounts include amounts paid for dinners. Fines for contributors will equal the amount of excess and campaign fines will equal 2 times the excess.
- Consider campaign expenditure caps. Offer government space on government electronic media for campaigning.
- Fundraising limited -- funds may only be raised from persons/entities in district
- Federal Primary elections all on one day - nationwide. For presidential elections, if two or more candidates receive 30% or more of the vote, a second primary election would be held 21 days later.
- Restrict release of exit polls until polls close (or close all polls at same time)
- Make sure any voting technologies are secure
- Preserve electoral college to prevent disenfranchisement of the rural and Midwestern states.
- Revise voter registration - include a pledge to uphold responsibility/privilege of voting (possible ID cards -magnetic strip); require government or quasi-government agency (e.g., libraries) to register voters. No party or individual or political organization or commercial registrations.
- Monitor absentee ballot abuse, such as nursing home votes by unconscious or semi-conscious persons.
- Sample ballots published and available 30 days in advance
- People could register to be placed upon a political "no call" and "no text" and "no e-mail" lists.
- No government funding of campaigns (including presidential); we currently pay hundreds of millions of dollars for candidates to travel across the country.
Goals: A fair system of election
Reasons: The current system still has too many loopholes which the average person does not even understand. The candidates with political clout can raise money more easily; therefore, the longer they have to raise money the bigger advantage they have. Voter fraud and charges of the same threaten our democracy.
